The client programs can be written in 3GL, like "C"or "C++" and call DBLIB, CTLIB or SYBDB API directly
or they can be 4GL programs such as PowerBuilder or
Visual Basic programs that communicate to database libraries indirectly, through
the respective 4GL database layer.

DBSPY works with any client application and it does not require the
source
code for database API calls. Trace information includes function call
parameters, including SQL queries.
